Team Saskatchewan Steering Committee Statement
The Team Saskatchewan Steering Committee is aware of inquiries regarding a recent social media post referencing a “2027 International Indigenous Games and Gathering” reportedly to be held in Alberta. The Steering Committee has sought clarification from the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) Council. The NAIG Council has confirmed that this event is not affiliated with NAIG and is being organized by an external entity with no involvement from NAIG. Team Saskatchewan would like to reaffirm that its focus remains on the 2028 North American Indigenous Games. The Steering Committee continues to work in alignment with NAIG and remains committed to supporting Indigenous athletes, coaches, and communities through the official NAIG pathway. Team Saskatchewan appreciates the concerns raised by athletes, families, and Provincial Sport Organizations and encourages all stakeholders to rely on information shared through official NAIG and Team Saskatchewan communications.
