Are you interested in competing in Olympic Weightlifting?

Shared by Colin Ratushniak

The JRMCC is working with coaches from the Saskatchewan Weightlifting Association (SWA) to bring Olympic Weightlifting to La Ronge. We are planning to run a weightlifting clinic at the JRMCC with four coaches from Saskatoon and Prince Albert that would come up to run the clinic. You will learn about technique (snatch and clean & jerk), tips on how to coach, programming and skills on how to make your own workouts.

This is also a GREAT opportunity for any youth that are interested in competing, leading up to the Saskatchewan Winter Games that are scheduled in Regina for February 20-26.

SWA has funding available through Sask Sport and the Indigenous Coaches and Officials program (ICOP) which we will utilize to set aside for specific opportunities for growth in Saskatchewan. The growth of an Olympic weightlifting club in La Ronge is such a great opportunity to learn! I have attached the ICOP website if you would like to read more.

ICOP will cover the cost 100% for all Aboriginal and Metis attendees. The cost for Non-Aboriginal or Metis attendees is $350. We will require a $100 down payment which will be refunded once the course has been completed (Non-refundable if not completed). The tentative dates we are looking at running this clinic are July 17th & 18th 2021.

We highly recommend participating in this clinic if you would like get a much deeper understanding and learn about Olympic weightlifting from coaches who have years and years of experience in the sport. If you are interested, please call or text Emma @ 306-425-8689 or email [email protected]. Once we have a good idea about the number of people who want to attend the course, we will set up a payment plan on the SWA website. We encourage anyone who is interested in perusing Olympic weightlifting to become a member of SWA. Senior memberships are $60 and Junior are $30. These memberships give us the ability to apply for funding to get more coaches to come up to La Ronge, to get more equipment, and have competitions. I have attached the link to bring you directly to the SWA website.

We will need to have all interested individuals’ payments in before July 1st, 2021 as we will need to communicate to ICOP about funding required. Please reach out to Emma if you have any questions!

Although there are no First Nations Summer Games or FSIN Championships, I would like to get the U18 boys group out for some practices later this summer. We have a local hitting instructor who is interested in joining us.

Any other adults willing to come out and lead a U12/U14/U16 boys or girls teams, please let me know. We’ll will have some coach clinics this fall and next spring to get you certified. We also have a softball skills camp coming up, keep posted on that!

PHASE 1 of the renovations are complete

Colin Ratushniak shared a post

Hi Everyone!
I’m happy to tell you that PHASE 1 of the renovations are complete at the JRMCC Fitness Centre. Thank you to Mid City Electric Ltd. for completing the renovations and to Little Rock Enterprises for supplying us with additional rubber flooring! If you are in the market for functional rubber flooring for a garage, a gym or anywhere else you can think, they currently have them in stock in La Ronge.

PHASE 2 of the renovation will be to replace the rubber flooring in the Barbell area and cover all the tiles so that the entire gym is rubber flooring.

The track will remain CLOSED for running/walking until Monday June 14th to reduce the amount of activity while the vet clinic is in town.
Hope you have a great weekend!
