Congratulations to Team North Weightlifting!

Emma Smallwood shared a post

I’d like to take a second to congratulate the team North weightlifting team who competed at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in Olympic Weightlifting. The athletes Tyson Bird, Leo Emond, Pesim Searson and their beauty of a coach Mike Rogers who are all Lac La Ronge Indian Band members and train at the JRMCC came out guns a blazing.

All three boys had 5 weeks of training prior to the games and all of them had never done a snatch in their lives. They all hit PRs and lifted weights they didn’t think they could. Breaking provincial records and Leo getting a gold medal in his age and weight category.

I could not be any more proud of the dedication these boys have shown over the last 5 weeks. From running up to the gym right after hockey practice, balancing a powerlifting workout plan a long with Olympic lifting training sessions, job schedules and basketball practices. You boys did whatever you had to to make it work. Hard work clearly pays off.

And I would also like to thank Mike Rogers for jumping in and taking the lead on coaching these boys. You have created weightlifting monsters! You are the real MVP. Going above and beyond for these kids and for the gym. You’re a rock star.
