Cancellation of Winter Festival

The nature of our biggest event of the year, the Lac La Ronge Winter Festival, is that it is heavily spectator-oriented. The Winter Festival is by far our biggest revenue-generator event of the year and on average we pull in an average $25K annually on the 10-day event combined. With no changes in today’s announcement regarding restrictions, we are saddened to announce the cancellation of this event!

Update on the drop-in CrossFit class

The drop-in CrossFit class today was a spectacular hit as we reached 96% enrolment in the three groups (beginner, intermediate and advanced). It’s awesome to see new faces who are looking to challenge themselves physically. Thank you all for coming out and big shoutout to our deadly instructors Colin Ratushniak and Emma Smallwood!

89ers Fun Fact:

On this day 132 years ago in 1889, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band signed an Adhesion to Treaty Six under Chief James Roberts (along with William Charles of what is now Montreal Lake Cree Nation) on the northeastern shore of Molanosa (Montreal Lake, Northern Saskatchewan). To this day, we continue use the 89ers name as a source of pride and to educate the public. The numbered Treaties were agreements between the Crown and Indigenous people, which came with certain expectations and obligations intended to benefit all people. As the saying goes, we are all Treaty people and, as such, you’re all 89ers!

CrossFit is a hit!

It’s safe to say CrossFit is a hit in the tri-community. We had an amazing response with 48 paid registrants, 3 classes per day twice a week in groups of 8. As usual we adhere to government Covid social distancing and sanitation guidelines. We have another 30 on the wait list. Unfortunately we couldn’t accommodate everyone but for those still interested, keep posted for updates on upcoming weekend drop-in sessions!
