JRMCC open to serve
All the hot food items (hamburgers and hot dogs) we had are now cooked. We also have a pot of hot soup, sandwiches, baggies of fresh veggies and fruit, boxed juice and lots of bottled water. As usual our ATM is stocked up, coffee in on and you can come charge your phones!
Free feminine hygiene products
We have free feminine hygiene products (sanitary pads), please inbox Nichole Charles for pickup as she will assist you in confidence! Phone or text Nichole at 306-420-9153.
Update (8:57 am):
Water is back on, coffee is on and we should have hot breakfast going about 10:00 am, we’ll have hamburgers, hotdogs and bagged lunches starting around 1:00 pm!
JRMCC transitioned into an emergency shelter for the night
Last update of the day (Wednesday May 19): We are transitioning to an emergency shelter for the night. We will still have coffee, sandwiches, ATM usage and limited outlets to charge cell phones in the lobby until 8:00 pm. Unfortunately we don’t have a breakfast planned for the morning (Thursday May 20) but at a minimum will have bagged lunches, juice, water and coffee starting about 10:00 am. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time!
Doing the best we can with what we have during the power outage
Sorry folks, we’re having a Murphy’s Law kind of morning. Please bear with us as we’re a bit behind. Our 7:00 am crew didn’t show up, the generator doesn’t allow for the exhaust fan to work in the kitchen which means we can’t cook in there now and we’re already low in propane! We have no choice to cook on BBQ’s for now. Coffee is available and you need to charge your phone, we ask that you drop it off and pick up later. No loitering as well as we’re allowed 30 in the building!
Thank you for all the donations and volunteers!
Thank you to all our volunteers and helpers who came out today, hundreds of burgers and hot dogs were given out free, as were hundreds of bottled water and cups of coffee. Thanks to Keethanow Supermarket and Coop Food Store for your generous donations in making this happen. Obviously people were in need of money as $21,000.00 went through the ATM in under six hours, just a jaw-dropping number we thought we would share!
Anyway, we’re back at tomorrow serving breakfast from 8:30 am to 10:30 (or until supplies last). Then from 11:30 am-1:30 pm (or till supplies last) we’ll have bagged sandwiches. At this time we’re not able to deliver unfortunately. Grab-&-go coffee will be on all day, ATM will be stocked up and we have a few outlets to charge up your phones.
We ask that you be considerate and mindful in using our services, some of the population is deemed vulnerable, some cannot provide for themselves at this time and many don’t have generators or BBQ’s. Please think of them before yourself. Thank you!
